About Us

The debut of Mayan Ruins, a
Cincinnati based band, occurred live on September 24, 2006. At the time we were a trio. It took very
little time however, to become the entity that it is today.

Our sound incorporates Native American, Middle
Eastern, African, and Asian rhythms then mixes them with ( but certainly not limited to ) shamanic
and Tibetan chants, electric guitars, bass, violin, saxophone, flutes, mandolin, and resonator
guitar that all blend together to create something we like to call psychedelic tribal
music.

When on stage, we embody the spirit of improvisation. "Rehearsals are an activity that we shun
vigorously". Christian Hartman. Because of this each show becomes a unique experience, each piece is a first, and each
musician freely spontaneous.

Mayan
Ruins is not simply a musical experience. Belly dance is also an integral part of the show. Featured in the
majority of our shows is a dancer known as Zahara. Be sure to check out her page on this site to see
her bio, pics, and link to Zahara's Tangled Web.

Since the bands conception, we have had the great fortune to work with what we
consider some of the most extraordinary dancers and troupes from the tri-state area. Be sure to visit their
sites from our links page.
